hirobotics: (wait wait-- aaaand it's been said)

This is a post for giving critique / suggestions / constructive criticism on how I play Hiro Hamada, from Disney's Big Hero 6!
Please try to be as constructive as possible with your notes, and I will absolutely do my best to get better at playing this dork on rocket boots. Anon is enabled (I believe), but I won't bite your head off for your words, so I hope you don't feel you need to use it.

Thanks, everyone!

Hey, it's Hiro! Can't answer right now, so just... Leave a message. I'll get back to you when I can.

The good thing is, my brother wanted to help a lot of people. And that's what we're gonna do. )
hirobotics: (deep breath in)
  • Being a genius and flying through the school system obviously didn't afford Hiro very many friends growing up. Kids either made fun of him or stayed away from him, so really Hiro only had his family in terms of a support system. Bot-fighting became his "social activity" of choice, particularly after graduating high school, and only Tadashi knew about it.
    • Hiro has mostly given up bot-fighting now, but every once in a while he'll go check out the new talent on the streets. For old times' sake.
  • Hiro doesn't generally flaunt his genius outside of the field of tech and robotics, but sometimes when he's talking he ends up throwing out words like "antidisestablishmentarianism." The reaction it gets out of people is so great, Hiro really wishes he did it more consciously than he does.
  • Hiro’s a horror junkie. Absolutely loves thrillers, horror games, anything that might get a scare out of people. Second to horror movies are anything heavy in the action.
  • Hiro loves video games, particularly the competitive ones. Halo, Call of Duty, Counter Strike, that sort of thing. He doesn't have a console system anymore, though; he stripped it down for robot parts some time ago and now only plays on his computer.
  • Despite losing them at 3, Hiro's never really been curious about what his parents were like. As far as he's concerned, his family has really only consisted of Tadashi and Aunt Cass, and now Baymax. His father's side of the family is very traditional, and they all live in Japan. They don't get to visit very often. Cass is his mother's only sister, and the grandparents on his mother's side died when he was very young. He only vaguely remembers them.
    • Their father came from a line of medical professionals; he himself was a successful doctor. Their mother was an American, a bright-eyed engineer
  • Tadashi was better at Japanese than Hiro, who struggles with it but can still speak it pretty fluently. Still, Hiro likes to listen to J-Rock while working on a project, usually singing along under his breath. Tadashi learned from his parents while Hiro had to learn it generally on his own and from school (all San Fransokyo schools offer Japanese classes, since it's so commonly spoken in the city area).
  • Hiro surprisingly has a lot of self-worth issues. Everyone loved Tadashi, and despite being super smart Hiro's always felt like little more than a shadow. He's always been “Tadashi’s little brother”, constantly being compared to him. Of course, he does try to mold himself after his brother's example, but at the end of the day they're different people. Hiro is barely even aware that he does this.
  • Hiro and Cass were both called to identify Tadashi's body after he was pulled from the flames and rubble of the SFIT expo hall. That was the precise moment when Hiro shut down completely.
  • Hiro full on shut down in the weeks following Tadashi's death. By the time he's shown again in canon, he's already doing much better. For the first few days he was basically catatonic, silent and sleepless. Then he went in and out of panic attacks, caused by how often he found himself wandering into Tadashi's side of the room and realizing how immaculate and empty it was (these were the only times he ever managed to sleep, curled up on Tadashi's bed or buried into his own blankets). Then he spent a week simply not talking or eating. Eventually he started talking to Aunt Cass again, but his loss of appetite continued. He lost roughly 15lbs in less than a month following his brother's death. He never cried, though, no matter how much pain he was in. Somehow he just wasn't able to really let himself cry until after seeing the videos in Baymax's databanks.
  • Hiro tries not to show it, but he's still suffering from some traumatic stress over Tadashi's death. Large open flames make him nervous and he tends to flinch every time he hears the roar of a fire. He still has nightmares on occasion about his death, about how maybe Tadashi would have survived if he'd held him back a few moments longer or even if he'd let him run in sooner, and sometimes wakes up shouting for his brother. This embarrasses him, since he's so used to putting on his brave front, so he doesn't tell anyone. (Aunt Cass and Baymax know, but have never said anything.)
  • Hiro's lab at school is in the new Tadashi Hamada building.
